Replacing siding is about much more than improving curb appeal.
Your siding is part of an exterior system designed to help protect the wall assembly from rain, wind, moisture, pests, and years of Pacific Northwest weather.
When siding begins to fail, water can eventually reach areas you cannot see from the exterior. Depending on the existing construction and installation, this can contribute to damaged sheathing, deteriorated trim, compromised flashing, and rot around windows and doors.
Elite Home Exteriors NW specializes in full siding replacement projects rather than small cosmetic siding repairs.
We replace aging and failing:
Our goal is to identify why the existing exterior is failing, address damaged areas discovered during removal, and install a siding system designed for long-term performance.

Gresham’s Pacific Northwest environment makes moisture management especially important.
Older siding may look acceptable from the street while problems are developing around windows, doors, penetrations, siding joints, roof-to-wall intersections, or other vulnerable areas.
Some warning signs include:
The visible damage is not always the entire problem.
Once old siding is removed, we can inspect the underlying wall assembly and determine whether additional repairs are necessary before the new siding system is installed.
The siding you see is only one part of your home’s exterior protection.
Behind it are critical components that help control water and protect the structure.
Our siding replacement projects can incorporate a complete moisture-management system using products and installation methods such as:
Particular attention is given to windows, doors, penetrations, horizontal transitions, rooflines, decks, and other locations where water can enter an improperly detailed exterior.
This building-envelope approach is one of the biggest differences between simply replacing siding and properly rebuilding an exterior wall system.
Many older homes throughout the Portland metro were constructed with various engineered wood siding products.
As these products age, homeowners may notice:
Simply painting deteriorated siding doesn’t correct damage occurring within or behind the siding system.
When the existing siding has reached the end of its useful life, complete replacement may provide a better long-term solution.
We can remove the failing material, inspect the wall underneath, complete necessary repairs, install a modern weather-resistant barrier and flashing system, and finish the home with new James Hardie siding.
We inspect the existing exterior, discuss your concerns, evaluate the siding condition, and talk through siding styles, materials, colors, and project goals.
You’ll receive a written scope explaining the work included in your siding replacement project.
Old siding is removed so we can evaluate the condition of the underlying wall.
We inspect exposed areas for rot, deteriorated sheathing, water damage, and other problems that could affect the new siding installation.
Damaged areas are addressed before the new exterior system is installed.
The weather-resistant barrier and flashing components are installed and integrated around critical areas of the exterior.
James Hardie siding, trim, soffit, and other selected exterior components are professionally installed.
Transitions, penetrations, joints, and required locations are properly detailed and sealed.
For primed James Hardie projects, we can complete the exterior with a professional Sherwin-Williams paint system.
We inspect the completed installation and clean the project area before considering the job complete.
For homeowners looking for a durable, attractive, and low-maintenance exterior, James Hardie fiber cement siding is one of our preferred siding systems.
James Hardie siding provides excellent resistance to many of the problems that affect traditional exterior materials, including moisture-related deterioration, pests, and fire exposure.
Available products and styles include:
Homeowners can create anything from a traditional Craftsman exterior to a clean modern design using different siding profiles, trim dimensions, colors, and accent materials.

A siding product installed in Gresham needs to handle more than appearance.
It needs to perform in an environment where exterior walls can experience months of rain, damp conditions, seasonal temperature changes, and repeated wetting and drying.
James Hardie fiber cement siding is engineered to resist:
Unlike traditional wood siding, fiber cement does not rely on wood fibers as its primary structural material.
That makes James Hardie an excellent option for homeowners replacing deteriorated cedar, engineered wood, aging vinyl, or other siding materials.
Just as importantly, however, premium siding still needs proper installation.
That is where the complete exterior wall system becomes important.
One of the biggest concerns during siding replacement is what may be hiding underneath the existing siding.
Water intrusion can sometimes remain concealed for years.
Once demolition begins, we may discover:
Elite Home Exteriors NW has extensive experience addressing rot and water damage discovered during siding replacement projects.
We don’t want to install premium siding over a compromised substrate.
When deterioration is discovered, we evaluate the affected area and determine what needs to be repaired before continuing with the new exterior system.

Wood siding can create a beautiful exterior, but Oregon’s moisture can make long-term maintenance especially important.
Over time, homeowners may encounter rot, splitting, peeling paint, insect damage, and deteriorated boards.
James Hardie siding can provide a similar traditional appearance without relying on wood siding across the exterior.
Cedarmill® siding, for example, provides a wood-grain appearance while maintaining the performance characteristics of fiber cement.
Vinyl siding can eventually become cracked, warped, faded, loose, or damaged.
We frequently replace older vinyl siding with James Hardie fiber cement siding for homeowners who want a more substantial exterior appearance and a different long-term maintenance profile.
Removing the existing vinyl also gives us an opportunity to evaluate the exterior wall underneath before installing the new siding system.
Your new exterior doesn’t have to look like every other house on the street.
One of the advantages of James Hardie siding is the ability to combine multiple profiles.
Popular combinations include:
A classic horizontal siding appearance that works well with Craftsman, traditional, ranch, and contemporary homes.
Vertical siding can create a modern farmhouse appearance or be used selectively on gables and architectural accents.
Straight or staggered shake can add texture to gables and other architectural areas.
Smooth fiber cement provides a cleaner appearance that works particularly well with modern exterior designs.
Window, door, corner, fascia, and architectural trim can provide contrast and definition throughout the exterior.

Choosing the right siding product matters.
Choosing the right siding contractor matters just as much.

We frequently recommend James Hardie fiber cement siding for Gresham homes because of its durability, moisture resistance, low-maintenance characteristics, design options, and suitability for Pacific Northwest conditions.
James Hardie siding is moisture resistant, but siding alone should not be considered the home’s entire waterproofing system. Proper installation, flashing, weather-resistant barriers, clearances, and exterior detailing all play important roles in moisture management.
Yes. Replacing deteriorated engineered wood siding with James Hardie fiber cement siding is a common type of project for Elite Home Exteriors NW. Once the existing siding is removed, we can inspect the substrate for concealed damage before installing the new system.
If hidden rot or water damage is discovered during demolition, the affected area needs to be evaluated before new siding covers it. Necessary repairs can then be addressed so the new exterior is installed over a sound substrate.
Our siding replacement projects typically include a new weather-resistant barrier as part of the exterior wall system. The exact products and specifications are detailed in your project proposal.
Yes. Proper flashing integration around windows, doors, penetrations, transitions, and other vulnerable areas is an important component of our siding replacement process.
Project length depends on the size and height of the home, amount of demolition, siding design, weather, accessibility, hidden repairs, and project complexity. We discuss the anticipated schedule before construction begins.
Siding replacement pricing varies significantly depending on square footage, number of stories, existing siding, demolition requirements, architectural complexity, trim details, access, product selection, painting, and hidden damage.
