Elite Home Exteriors NW completed this siding replacement project at 11724 NW 11th Ct in Vancouver, Washington, upgrading the home with a durable exterior system designed specifically for the wet Pacific Northwest climate.
The project went beyond installing new siding. Our scope included addressing water-damaged T1-11 sheathing, improving the home’s weather-resistant barrier and flashing details, and installing new pre-primed James Hardie siding and trim.
As a local Vancouver WA siding contractor, our goal is to build the complete exterior assembly correctly—from the wall beneath the siding to the final bead of caulking and coat of paint.

Removing the Existing Siding and Inspecting the Wall Assembly
One of the most important parts of a professional siding replacement happens after the old siding comes off and before the new siding goes on.
Once the existing exterior materials were removed, we were able to inspect the underlying wall assembly for evidence of moisture intrusion and deterioration.
This inspection revealed areas of T1-11 sheathing affected by water damage. Covering compromised material with new siding would leave an existing problem hidden behind an otherwise beautiful exterior.
Instead, we addressed the damaged areas before proceeding with the new siding installation.

Repairing Water-Damaged T1-11
The water-damaged sections of T1-11 were repaired as part of preparing a solid substrate for the new exterior system.
Finding deterioration during a siding replacement is particularly important in Southwest Washington, where repeated exposure to wind-driven rain and prolonged wet weather can expose weaknesses in older siding, flashing, and weather-resistant barrier systems.
Our approach is to correct accessible damage during the siding replacement rather than simply conceal it.
That attention to the building envelope is one reason homeowners choose Elite Home Exteriors NW for complete siding replacement projects.
Benjamin Obdyke HydroGap® Drainable Weather Barrier
After completing the necessary repairs, we installed Benjamin Obdyke HydroGap® Drainable Weather Barrier.
HydroGap is designed to provide a drainage space behind the exterior cladding, helping bulk water that gets behind the siding move downward and away from the wall assembly.
This is an important feature for homes in the Vancouver and Clark County climate.
Rather than thinking of siding as the home’s only defense against moisture, we treat the siding, weather-resistant barrier, flashing, sealants, and drainage details as components of a complete exterior system.

HydroFlash® Membrane at Critical Areas
We paired the HydroGap WRB with the Benjamin Obdyke HydroFlash® Membrane System at critical transitions and penetrations.
Proper flashing around windows, doors, and other vulnerable areas helps direct water back to the exterior instead of allowing it to enter the wall cavity.
For Pacific Northwest homes, these details can be every bit as important as the siding product itself.
Z-Metal and Joint Flashing
Additional protection included Z-metal flashing and joint flashing where required.
Z-metal helps shed water away from horizontal transitions and vulnerable areas of the siding assembly. Joint flashing provides additional protection behind lap-siding butt joints.
These are relatively small components of the finished exterior, but they play an important role in long-term moisture management.
James Hardie Cedarmill® Lap Siding – 7″ Reveal
For the primary exterior, we installed pre-primed James Hardie Cedarmill® lap siding with a 7-inch reveal using 8.25-inch boards.
The Cedarmill texture provides the appearance of traditional wood-grain siding while delivering the durability advantages of fiber cement.
James Hardie siding is an excellent choice for homeowners who want a substantial, attractive exterior without the maintenance requirements associated with traditional wood siding.
As a James Hardie siding contractor, Elite Home Exteriors NW focuses heavily on proper installation details rather than simply installing the boards.
Homeowners can also explore James Hardie’s siding products directly from the manufacturer.
Cedar Shake Gable Accent
To give the home additional architectural character, cedar shake siding was incorporated into the gable.
Using a contrasting siding profile in a gable helps break up larger elevations and adds texture and visual interest to the exterior.
The combination of traditional cedar shake and James Hardie Cedarmill lap siding gives this Vancouver home a more distinctive finished appearance while maintaining a classic Pacific Northwest style.
James Hardie Rustic 5/4×4 Trim
We installed pre-primed James Hardie Rustic 5/4×4 trim around appropriate exterior details.
The thicker 5/4 trim creates stronger definition around windows, doors, corners, and siding transitions while complementing the texture of the Cedarmill lap siding.
Carefully planned trim is an important part of the finished appearance. It gives the siding clean termination points while helping create depth and architectural detail.
OSI QUAD MAX Caulking
Exterior joints requiring sealant were finished with OSI QUAD MAX caulking.
A siding installation has numerous transitions and penetrations that need to be properly detailed. Using a high-quality exterior sealant helps create durable connections at these areas while accommodating normal movement within the exterior assembly.
Hot-Dipped Galvanized Fasteners
We used hot-dipped galvanized nails for the siding installation.
Exterior fasteners need to withstand long-term exposure to moisture, which is especially important in the Pacific Northwest. Corrosion-resistant fasteners help protect the integrity and appearance of the siding system over time.
Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint® Exterior Finish
After the pre-primed James Hardie siding and trim were installed, the exterior was finished with Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint®.
Painting the siding after installation creates a uniform finished appearance across the siding, trim, cut edges, and other painted exterior components.
A quality coating system also provides another layer of protection against Vancouver’s changing weather conditions.

Why the Complete Siding System Matters
A successful siding replacement isn’t determined solely by which siding is visible when the project is finished.
The long-term performance of the exterior depends on what is behind the siding as well.
For this Vancouver project, that meant addressing the existing water damage first and then combining a drainable weather barrier, membrane flashing, metal flashing, joint flashing, corrosion-resistant fasteners, quality sealant, James Hardie fiber cement siding, and a professional paint system.
Together, these components create a more comprehensive approach to protecting the home from Pacific Northwest weather.
Completed Vancouver, WA Siding Replacement
The finished project gives this Vancouver home a refreshed exterior while addressing the underlying water-damage concerns discovered during construction.
The James Hardie Cedarmill lap siding provides the primary durable exterior, the cedar shake gable adds architectural character, and the James Hardie Rustic trim provides substantial definition around the home’s exterior details.
Most importantly, the new siding is backed by a carefully detailed moisture-management system designed to help protect the structure behind it.
