What is the lifespan of siding?James HardiePlank Fiber Cement Replacement

There are a few types of siding available here in the northwest. It’s important to install these exterior products correctly for maximum durability. We are Elite Home Exteriors NW have fixed multiple “Contractor Defect” projects due to wrong installation.

Vinyl Siding (Kaycan, Mastic, Alside) – Vinyl siding can last up to 30 + years. It will eventually fade in color and become more brittle as it ages. No paint and low maintenance is perfect rentals or homeowners who never want to keep up on their exterior siding.

Fiber Cement Siding (James Hardie, Allura, Cemplank) – James Hardie Plank comes with a 30 Year Non Pro-Rated Warranty but can easily outlast 30 years if the homeowner keeps up on Caulking and Painting. Paint is recommending every 7-9 years.

Wood Siding – (Cedar, LP, Duratemp) Has little to no warranty. It’s the first to weather badly and rot here in the Portland OR and Metro Area and Vancouver WA areas. Not keeping up on caulking and paint can easily cause your exterior to rot very quickly.
